Get to know Lauren...

From the Western Pennsylvania Quarter Horse Association, we introduce you to Lauren Harrington. Employed at her family's business of 104 years, Lauren is an Irrigation Specialist at Fairview Evergreen Nurseries on their 3,500 acre farm. This beauty might look like she is all glitz and glamour, but she loves being outdoors. In her free time, you can find her hiking, kayaking, shooting guns, practicing archery and of course, trail riding her horses with friends and family. Read more about Lauren below in her interview!

1.) Name and Association Representing:

My name is Lauren Harrington, and I am representing the Western Pennsylvania Quarter Horse Association of Harlansburg, Pennsylvania.

2.) Where are you from? Tell us a little about your hometown?

I am from Fairview, Pennsylvania; a small town located right off Lake Erie. Fairview is a gorgeous town of farm land and shoreline. It doesn’t get any better than that. But, the best part is Fairview is the home of my family’s 3500 acre farm where I have learned so much about hard work and dedication.

3.) Why did you choose to compete for the title of 2015 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen?

I chose to compete for the title of 2015 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen because of the positive impact having a role model like the Congress Queen has on the little girls in the equine industry. I believe the Congress Queen is a huge inspiration to many of the industry’s young girls to become involved and help build the AQHA community. I would love to be the reason some little girl looks forward to when she can run for Congress Queen, just like the many queens that were my reasons for wanting to be Congress Queen.

3.) Are you currently in school? Employed?

I am about to finish my last year of college at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where I am obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Technical and Business Writing, and an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. I am also employed at Fairview Evergreen Nurseries as an Irrigation Specialist. Fairview Evergreen Nurseries is our family business of 104 years, and I am a fifth generation team member.

4.) What is your favorite horse memory or accomplishment?

I have so many incredible memories in and out of the show pen, but one of my favorite horse memories was at the 2012 All American Quarter Horse Congress. I placed 6th in the Novice Amateur Showmanship with our talented mare, Ima Blazing Grace, out of 144 horses. The moment became even more special when Emily Messing, who at the time was the newly crowned Congress Queen, handed me my award. We had spent the week before in the Queen’s Contest together. She hugged me as she handed me the medallion. No one in the arena understood why the Congress Queen was hugging one of the exhibitors, but it was just one of the first moments where I realized there will always be an amazing queen bond and friendship among fellow queen contestants.

5.) Share an interesting fact about yourself:

An interesting fact about me is besides the sparkle, hairspray, and make-up of the show pen, I love being outdoors. I spend my free time kayaking, hiking, practicing archery, shooting guns, and trail riding with family and friends. I find these are the best way to relieve stress after a long week.
